Chiropractic Treatment in Markham
How chiropractic treatment works at DC Chiropractic in Markham: techniques, first visit, fees from $80 to $140 and direct billing. Call (416) 371-9199.
Chiropractic treatment at DC Chiropractic starts with a full assessment, then hands-on care for the spine, joints and muscles. Our four chiropractors treat back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica and jaw pain, plus care during pregnancy, after birth and in childhood. A first appointment costs $140 and a follow-up visit costs $80. We direct bill 41 insurers and plans at our clinic in Markham Village.
Dr. Daniel Corallo leads the chiropractic team and has practised since 2017. He and three other chiropractors work the same way. They find the cause of your pain, explain it in plain terms, then agree on a plan with you.
What does chiropractic treatment involve?
Chiropractic treatment uses hands-on care to ease pain and help your spine, joints and muscles move better. Your chiropractor first finds where the problem starts, then chooses from adjustments, joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, taping and home exercises. Most care plans combine more than one. The goal is less pain now and fewer flare-ups later, with exercises you can keep doing on your own.
People usually come to us with pain that has lasted longer than a few days or keeps coming back. Common reasons include low back pain after lifting, a stiff neck from desk work, headaches that start at the base of the skull, and pain that runs down one leg. Treatment also suits people who want to move more freely before a sports season or a return to work.
Who will treat you
Four registered chiropractors treat patients at DC Chiropractic: Dr. Daniel Corallo, Dr. Allyshia Daley, Dr. Meghan MacTavish and Dr. Mercedes Shields. Each one is a registered chiropractor in Ontario and a member of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario. All four earned a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto.
A chiropractor is not a medical doctor. Under Ontario's Chiropractic Act, 1991, chiropractors assess, diagnose and treat problems of the spine, the joints and the nervous system. You can book a chiropractor directly, without a referral from your family doctor. If your exam points to a problem that needs medical care, your chiropractor refers you to your family doctor.
Is chiropractic treatment right for you?
Chiropractic treatment suits many muscle and joint problems, but not every case of pain. Your chiropractor checks for warning signs at your first exam and tells you if another kind of care would help you more. The two lists below show when treatment usually fits, and when you should see a medical doctor first.
Chiropractic treatment often fits well if you have:
- Back or neck pain that is stiff, achy or worse with certain movements
- Headaches that start in the neck or shoulders
- Pain, tingling or numbness that travels into an arm or leg
- Jaw pain or clicking when you chew or yawn
- Joint pain after a strain, a fall or a car accident
See a medical doctor or go to an emergency department first if you have:
- Loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness in the groin
- New weakness in both legs
- Back pain with a fever or weight loss you cannot explain
- Pain after a serious fall or a car crash that has not been checked
What happens at your first chiropractic appointment?

Your first appointment includes a health history, a physical exam, an explanation of what your chiropractor finds and a care plan. Treatment starts only once you understand the plan and agree to it. You do not need a referral. Bring your benefits card, a list of your medications and any X-ray or MRI reports so your chiropractor can see what other providers have already checked.
Health history
Your chiropractor reviews your intake form and asks when the pain started, what makes it worse and what you have tried so far.
Physical exam
Your chiropractor checks how your spine and joints move, tests your strength and finds where the pain comes from.
Your diagnosis and plan
You hear what the exam found, what treatment could help, roughly how many visits to expect and what you can do at home.
Treatment
Treatment begins once you agree to the plan. Your chiropractor explains each technique before using it, and you can say no to any part of it.
Chiropractic techniques we use
Our chiropractors pick techniques to match your problem, your comfort and your goals. Most visits mix hands-on joint work, muscle work and exercise advice. If a technique makes you uneasy, say so. There is almost always another way to treat the same problem. The table below explains each technique in plain terms, so you know what to expect before you book. Ask your chiropractor about any technique you have questions about.
| Technique | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Spinal adjustment | A quick, controlled push on a stiff joint in the spine to restore movement |
| Joint mobilisation | Slow, gentle movement of a joint through its range, with no quick push |
| Soft tissue therapy | Hands-on pressure and stretching of tight muscles |
| Active Release Therapy | Pressure on a muscle while you move it, to free tight tissue |
| Cupping | Suction cups on the skin to lift and loosen tight muscle |
| Percussion therapy | A handheld vibration tool that relaxes tense muscles |
| Kinesiology and athletic taping | Stretchy or rigid tape that supports a joint or muscle |
| Contemporary medical acupuncture | Fine needles placed in tight muscles and nerve points |
Three of our chiropractors trained in medical acupuncture at McMaster University. Dr. Corallo and Dr. Daley hold Webster Technique certification, a chiropractic method used during pregnancy. Orthotics are also available at the clinic.
Conditions our chiropractors treat
Our chiropractors see patients of all ages for problems of the spine, joints and muscles. The most common reasons people book are low back pain, neck pain, headaches and sciatica. We also treat disc injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, jaw (TMJ) pain, whiplash and work injuries. Each of these has its own page, listed below this section, with more detail on how treatment works. If your problem is not on the list, call and ask. Our chiropractors can tell you whether chiropractic care is likely to fit.
Families come to us for care through every stage. We offer prenatal chiropractic during pregnancy, postnatal care after birth and pediatric care for babies and children. Dr. Meghan MacTavish also leads six-week postpartum rehabilitation classes for new mothers.

OHIP does not cover chiropractic care at a private clinic. Most patients use health benefits from work, school or a private plan. We direct bill 41 insurers and plans, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield and Blue Cross. Many plans set a yearly limit for chiropractic care, so check yours before you book. Our full fee list covers massage therapy, naturopathic medicine and acupuncture too.
Why patients choose DC Chiropractic for chiropractic care
Patients book with DC Chiropractic for practical reasons they can check before the first visit. Each reason below comes with the detail behind it, from who treats you to how late we stay open. None of them is a promise about results, because every body responds to care in its own way and your plan will reflect that.
You agree to the plan before treatment starts
Your chiropractor explains why before any adjustment. You hear the findings, the plan and the options, and then you decide.
Four chiropractors with different clinical interests
Dr. Daley has a special interest in pregnancy, postpartum and children's care. Dr. MacTavish focuses on active rehabilitation. Dr. Shields has a special interest in neck pain, headaches and jaw problems.
Care during pregnancy and after birth
Two of our chiropractors hold Webster Technique certification. Dr. MacTavish runs six-week postpartum rehabilitation classes, which start after a first chiropractic visit.
Appointments until 8:00 PM, Monday to Thursday
You can come after work or school. On Friday we are open from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We also keep some same-day and next-day appointments open for people who are in pain.
After your chiropractic treatment
Some people feel mild soreness or stiffness for a day or two after treatment, much like after exercise. Your chiropractor also gives you advice to follow at home, such as how to sit, stand and sleep, and a few exercises to do between visits. Your chiropractor checks how the exercises are going at each visit.
Your chiropractor reviews your progress at each follow-up visit and adjusts the plan as you improve. If your pain is not changing as expected, your chiropractor will tell you and talk about other options, including a referral to your family doctor.
Questions about chiropractic treatment
Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most people feel pressure during an adjustment, not sharp pain. Some feel mild soreness for a day or two after, much like after a workout. Tell your chiropractor if anything feels too strong. Your chiropractor can use gentler methods instead, such as joint mobilisation or soft tissue work, which use slow movement and no quick push.
What is the popping sound during an adjustment?
The pop comes from gas bubbles releasing inside the fluid of a joint when it moves quickly. It is the same thing that happens when you crack your knuckles. The sound does not mean a bone has moved back into place, and it does not tell you whether an adjustment worked.
How many chiropractic sessions will I need?
There is no set number. It depends on your condition, how long you have had it and how your body responds to care. Your chiropractor gives you an estimate at your first visit and reviews it as you go. Ask what you can do at home between visits to help.
